A Gloomy Day in Georgia

Having taken a couple of days of rest and trying to get my head screwed on right for writing a novel that I have no idea where it is going or how it will end I think today will be a good day for digging back into it. I hope so anyway.

We’ve had two days of rainy, gloomy weather and today is at least dry so far but a gloomy kind of overcast. I guess that’s good for all those who celebrate Halloween. I don’t! In my opinion it is satan’s day and in no way will I celebrate the dark side. We are to be light not depict darkness with witches costumes and little devil’s running from door to door. But that’s just my opinion.

With our temperatures dropping down to 34 degrees tonight I have a couple of plants, big plants, in big pots, that I need to bring inside and some laundry to do and then I will sit down at this contraption called a computer and get into some serious prayer and serious writing. Procrastination must end!

With the colder temperatures arriving I can light the fire in the fireplace, fix myself a hot cup of herb tea and settle back in the warmth of the room and write. This story definitely has me going because of the twists and turns. It sure would help if the Lord would quit saying, “Trust Me. You’ll see.”

The mystery is building.

Hang in there, we’ll get it done.

Thanks for your prayers and support.

Suspense Growing

After spending a quiet day of rest and relaxation I decided to begin the next chapter in the new book while it was quiet and peaceful last night with no interruptions. Reading the last chapter, so as to be sure to start where that one left off, ideas began to form in my mind.

A lot of ideas. “Okay Lord. Get me out of your way so I will write what you want written.” I sat praying and then started typing and things seemed to be going pretty smoothly but…

A new twist in the story began appearing. I’ve been told by past publishers and editors that if a story has too many twists and turns, several characters, and various events that it can become confusing to the reader. Its almost like trying to put an invisible jigsaw puzzle together and the reader will lose interest.

I finished the chapter after asking the Lord several times, “Is this coming from you or am I getting in your way?” The answer was always affirming and encouraging that no I am not getting in His way and to keep going.

This morning I was up early and began the next chapter. Half way through it I have had to stop because of my own doubts and listening to past editors about a story becoming too complicated. The new twist in last nights chapter is being played out in this chapter and even with the Lord admonishing me with, “Who’s writing this?” because I keep questioning if this is coming from me or from the Holy Spirit, so I just had to back away before I would delete the entire chapter and start over thinking I’ve messed up and got in His way.

So for today, I’m tempted to go back and continue the chapter but because of my doubts I won’t. I need a clear head and a sense that this is the way the story should be going.

And that’s what we need to do! If this arises when we’re working on a book, an article, or whatever and our thoughts are not clear, or there’s a sense of something not right, or maybe distractions from the enemy are sneaking in, then we need to back off and take a break.

So maybe tonight my head will be screwed on straight and the Lord will give me the rest of this story or at least the rest of this chapter.

Thanks for coming by. See you next time.

Back in the Groove

After writing about my woes I’m happy to say the week-end was nice! Nice, yes, but there was one little unexpected glitch. I decided I needed to see if my gas fireplace was working due to winter cold just around the corner. It’s remote controlled so I grab the remote. I press the buttons – no little clicking sound telling me that the fire is about to pop up through the logs, nothing!

The non-Christian language wanted to spill forth but I was able to contain it. Thank you Jesus. I don’t have to ask for forgiveness and repent of the foul language spilling forth from these lips.

I decided to wait and just take care of it at a later date and went off to bed. During the night and in my deep sleep, I hear a voice that says two simple words, “remote control.”

The next day I check the battery in the remote control – dead as a door nail. I change the battery and walla- all is good and no big bill to check out the fireplace. God is so good! He cares and looks after us and we need to listen to His little whispered words.

I was finally able to settle down from all the “disasters” and my roommate and I drove up to Dahlonega in the mountains of Georgia, and visit a 92 year old that I had been visiting before she was moved to another assisted living facility after an extended stay in the hospital.

We were able to spend some time with her, stop and have some lunch, and on the way home take a few pictures of the Fall leaves that have finally started to display their beautiful colors.

With my renewed sense of peace the juices began to flow again and I spent most of Saturday and part of Sunday writing. It felt great! If we can take care of business and get to the point of having a mind clear of other things we can sit down and let the words flow.

I found that having the cares and concerns for other things is definitely a big hindrance to writing. How can a story line flow when smoke alarms blare sending you glued to the ceiling in the middle of the night, broken t.v’s, and stopped up toilets are upper most on our minds? It could be a sick child, a car broken down, or anything else that invades the writing juices from flowing.

With the week-end free from those pesky need-to-do, have to take care of surprises I have been able to write, write, write, and I’ve joyfully added another three chapters to the new book.

It feels so good to be back in the groove!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.

The Plumber

The last post I was pouring out my woes to you and things were not looking up. It seemed it was one thing after another and this is the time of year when my big bills come rolling in and must be paid so I was hanging onto the Lords promise to meet all of my needs and now with a new roommate that I’m helping the checkbook might squeal a bit.

We got the smoke alarms taken care of and the T.V. fixed and my handy dandy handyman came yesterday evening and plunged and plunged and plunged and used the “snake” on the guest house toilet all to no avail. “I’ll have to come back Monday with a fifty foot snake and remove the toilet and run the snake the full length.”

Not good news and in the meantime my poor roommate is having to traipse upstairs to use the bathroom. She can still shower and use the sinks etc. downstairs so this morning she gets in the shower and while her head is filled with shampoo she glances down and the bottom of the shower is filled above her feet with soapy water.

“Ahhhh, Sue.” She doesn’t want to tell me after everything else.

But….

“The water was over my feet and I hear blurp, blurp, blurp. Then all of a sudden a whooooooosh. All the water was instantly sucked down the drain.” she tells me. The toilet flushes, no more problem and I do a happy dance and finish the chapter I was writing on my new book.

I didn’t know that God was a plumber!

See ya later…

When it Rains it Pours

And I’m not talking about the wet kind of rain. I’m not sure if the enemy of God is really mad because I brought a woman home that was having difficulties and she’s now living with me but it seems one thing after another has happened since then which was just last Friday.

We got my roommate moved in, things put away in my guest house and she was able to get a bit settled and things were going great. She loves her new home and we get along beautifully. We went to church, had a nice lunch and sat around getting acquainted.

Tuesday night we had a nice dinner, sat out on the deck chatting and later parted ways to our own domains and went to bed only to be abruptly jerked straight up in our beds to the screaming of all the smoke alarms in my house blaring.

The fire department arrived to find no fire. Praise be to God. The alarms suddenly stopped and the firemen hopped back in the big red truck and left. We went back to bed and barely dozed off when the blaring smoke alarms began again.

Now if you think, Dah. Change the batteries, that was done just three days previously and it was the firemen that changed them because I’m old and do not belong on a ladder or climbing into my attic.

Back the fire men come again. Not so nice this time. Long story, I had to have an electrician come and there was a short so $150.00 bill later a unit was changed out and we are getting sleep.

Tuesday, the T.V. went out downstairs in the guest house. Thankfully that was taken care of by Direct T.V. but the usual, “We’ll be there between …. and …. So stay put until they arrive.

Today, my room mate woke to her toilet overflowing. Yikes! Now I need my handy dandy plumber.

Needless to say, this week has been a doozey and we still have the rest of the week to face. And obviously I have not been able to wrap my head around writing until just now so as not to keep you all hanging as to why there has been no new posts.

Now you know. And no, I haven’t had the time or inclination to even think about writing anything for the new book, but life happens and we all know how that can go.

I decided its time for a break and time to chill out, so we went to my beach and got our feet wet and enjoyed the sunshine, warm weather, and sand between my toes. Boy is the water cold!

Thanks for stopping by.

Fall is Here

I took this picture in Tn. when I lived there.

Yes, the leaves have started falling, the 98 degree heat is gone, and now I’m in a sweat shirt because it’s 62 degrees! I do love seeing the Lord’s handiwork in the changing of the leaves but I do not, do not like cold weather!

When the Lord moved me to the middle of Podunk nowhere Wyoming He said I would be there a year and a half. I was there through two freezing, and I mean freezing, below zero winters and one 80 degree summer. I absolutely hated having to dig out from blizzards, shoveling snow, and freezing my butt off even with three layers of clothes on. Praise God for Georgia weather!

At least cold weather is good for something, like writing, and ridding us of those pesky mosquito’s. I’ve been able to add a couple of chapters to my new book and today is an exciting day. The past two days I’ve been doing laundry, doing some on the new book, cleaning my guest house, and waiting in anticipation for my new roommate to arrive today.

This reminds me of how the Lord will work in our lives if we will just listen and then be obedient to what He wants us to do. I’m sensing a life change for this room mate and I’m excited for her. She’s had some tough years but her heart’s desire is to do the Lord’s will. That makes all the difference in the world.

That’s one of the reason’s I write. It is His will for His message to be out there in the world and since we are His hands and feet I allow Him to use my hands….and now my home.

All the glory goes to the Lord for how He will use us. If we try to take the credit, step up with the “I did…, aren’t I great,” He will jerk a knot in our tail in a New York minute!

So when this little Christian starts typing the words I give Him all praise, honor, and glory because He is the One I want to please, not man.

Happy Fall – see ya next time.

The Lord at Work

Wow, the last few days have been a zinger. Meaning good, but busy. It should never amaze me how the Lord works but at times it does. He’s always at work behind the scenes in our lives regardless of whether we are aware of it or not.

Sunday was a normal get up, go to church, come home, eat lunch, take a nap. It was during my nap part of the day that the phone rang and with that one simple phone call a whole new chapter in this writer’s corner of the world will be beginning. A new chapter, but not in the new book I’m writing, but in my personal life.

Over the years the Lord has used me and my home to help hurting women. I’ve had several move in with me and give them a safe place to heal, be ministered to, and get on their feet. That’s the Lord’s glory not mine!

Since being back in Georgia, after the five + years of hard lessons in learning to trust, obey, and totally depend on Him I have not had any ladies living with me as the Lord has called me to do other things.

In one phone call and 24 hours later the Lord has brought a woman in need to my doorstep. She will be moving in with me this Friday. I’m excited about it and please pray for us. This will be a big adjustment for her and a smaller adjustment for me because of having someone else living with me after all this time.

Our Almighty Lord and Savior is absolutely amazing! If you ever doubt He cares about you then remember that He said He will meet all of your needs, and that includes giving you a place to live other than your car.

Have a great week – see you next time.

The Juices are Flowing

Not just the words that have been flowing today while writing another chapter to my new book. I was up late last night even after posting that I had just finished another chapter. The words kept flowing and yet another chapter was written before retiring at 3:00 a.m.

The real juices started flowing when I spotted a large Artichoke with my name printed clearly across its petals while grocery shopping yesterday. I couldn’t believe such a large fresh one was sitting right on top of the other scrawny ones. It had to be there just for me!

I grew up in central California, at least the first twelve years of my life was spent there. We were in the Monterey, Carmel, and Salinas area with Castroville close by. Casterville, and surrounding areas, has all sorts of produce crops and Artichokes is one of them. I assume they are still grown there now, too. We could buy a large bag of big Artichokes for a dollar. Now they’re $2.00 + for one scrawny little dried up thing. Hence I have not had an Artichoke in who knows how long.

Like racing to the finish line I bee-lined it straight to that big Artichoke as I heard it calling my name. That’s when the juices started filling my dry mouth. In case some of you do not know what an artichoke is or have never seen one…(oh aghast)

That’s my lunch today. Artichokes are high in Vitamin K, but who cares about that. So how do you eat this prickly looking veggie, you ask?

There are a number of ways they can be prepared but my favorite is steamed. It took an hour of cooking/steaming to get this big baby cooked but it’s well worth it. As you can see there are petals. Each petal is peeled off and at the base of the petal is the meat.

That gob of white stuff on the dish is mayonnaise. I like to dip the meat end into the mayonnaise and peel the meat off over the top of my bottom teeth. Ohhhh yumm!

Most, or I should say many, people enjoy just the Artichoke heart. That’s where the abundance of the meat is but oh, to bad, because they’re missing the good stuff at the base of the petal.

The first time I tried one as a kid I tried to eat the whole petal. Big mistake and left everyone at the table laughing until tears filled their eyes. Thankfully a sympathetic adult showed me how to eat one and I’ve loved them ever since.

So while my quest to fulfill the specific juice flow for this delicious veggie has been conquered I need to get back to the juices/words that are flowing through my head and screaming to be typed to finish the next chapter of my book that I’ve been working on today.

Have a great week-end and go get’cha an artichoke, but make sure its a fresh one.

Fingers Tapping

No I’m not listening to music. After Doctor appointments, Dentist appoints, Car repairs, trimming bushes and trees, a 2 week visiting guest, and traveling two different states, I rose kind of early this morning and thought about taking a lounge chair and going down to my beach to have some quiet time with the Lord. He said we’d get rest doing that but when I looked at the outside thermometer it read 62 degrees and the wind was blowing. I don’t think so!

Almost my back yard.

So instead I went to Walmart. Okay, I could have gotten quiet before the Lord in my living room but my 90 (now 91) year old friend at the assisted living facility that I’ve been teaching to crochet, joined several others and packed up her bags and much like passengers on a sinking ship bailed ship due to, sadly, many problems with the facility.

I had crocheted and decorated 40 Christmas trees to distribute to each room this coming December and suddenly I wondered what I was now going to do with them. The answer came when my friend joined the many others in a new assisted living home.

Why Walmart? I learned this facility has more than 40 rooms! It takes time to crochet and decorate these Christmas trees and now I needed more yarn and supplies to get started making more trees so each room would have one of my cute creations to bring a smile and help, (hopefully) to add to their celebration of our Lord’s birth.

As is usually the case, I can’t wait to get started so I spent the afternoon crocheting and decorating. I love doing crafts almost as much as playing in the dirt. I have four more to complete and decided these fingers needed to do something else…

Crocheted Christmas trees

so that started the tapping of the keys on this computer and wala, chapter 15 has just been written, printed, edited, and the mistakes corrected on the computer on my new novel, and the next chapter may be started before I hit the sack (go to bed). Yet here I am telling you about it with more clicking keys.

Where there is a will, there is a way and I encourage you to do the things that need to be done but also take the time to do some fun things. Life is too short to ignore our need for fun. And no, I haven’t ignored the Lord. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ahhh Cool Weather

(I took this picture in Murfreesboro, Tn. when I lived there)

For how many weeks did we have 90+ weather and couldn’t stay outside for more than 10 minutes without breaking into a sweat? The weather people on T.V. said we have had the hottest summer ever! I can sure believe it! No yard work was able to be done except the early morning hours, if then.

I’m loving our 65 degrees today! Yahoooo. I was able to finish up the trimming of Crepe Myrtles, and a large rose bush that needed trimming desperately. The yard is being covered in dry leaves, but my yard man will take care of those.

In the meantime, I’m hoping to get back to the new novel I’m writing. It is definitely getting interesting. As stated before, I have no clue where this story is going but the main character, “Amy,” is making progress in her search. For now, anyway.

Vacation and visiting guests are great, but then the real world steps up and things need to be taken care of. Writing must be put aside at times, but the flip side of that is that when we pick up our pen, or face the computer screen, we can do it feeling refreshed.

Last time I mentioned my car making a clank, clank, clank noise. I won’t go into the long sad story but after two trips to the shop the problem has been solved. What was the problem you ask that cost me $125.00?

Are you ready?

An air filter cap was left off when they changed my oil!

Stay tuned – ๐Ÿ™‚
