This is a wreath that Gerri, my roommate, and I made last year for a friend. She loved it and we were honored to help her decorate and pleased with the results of our love quest. But this year I just can’t seem to get into the spirit of Christmas.
Many nights now I have gone to bed, wrestled with the blankets, stuffed the pillow over my head, rebuked the demons harassing me in my mind, prayed, and finally end up getting up and playing games on the computer, and finally return to bed to fall asleep at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning.
There is just so much going on in this world that seems to keep our focus away from the season. Hopefully not for you, but it sure has for me. Georgia, as most of you have heard, is eyeball deep in controversy over the mishandling, wait, I correct that. It isn’t accidentally mishandled, it is out and out fraud, deliberate cheating to steal the election from our President, that has invaded our election.
Then there are all the aggravating and constant campaign commercials for the voting to fill the senate seats that have been left vacant. Depending on which party you are for is enough to make you (well me) want to throw the T.V. right out in the yard and beat it to death with a hammer. Instead I grab the remote and turn it off. I don’t need to let my frustration and anger at the blatant lies cause me to have to buy another television when this one works just fine…as long as I leave it where it is…in the house.
How easily the enemy seems to have in robbing us of our joy. Of course joy doesn’t come from the feel good fuzzies. It is inherent within us through the Holy Spirit that indwells us Christians. Yet we can hinder, in fact just destroy, feeling the joy of the Lord. It’s always there, we just have to stop stomping it down or pushing it aside to pay more attention to the world garbage than to the Spirit within us.
Oh my, this post as I’m writing it is giving me a swift kick in the pants. Okay Cass, get with the Spiritual program and stop allowing the enemy to steal your joy.
I think I’ll put my Merry Christmas decals up tomorrow on my garage door. Let the cheer jump out to all my neighbors as they pass by and see my Merry Christmas wish for all to see.
