Where two or more…

What a week-end! Between staying up late writing, oh yes, I have been able to add three more chapters to “Amy’s Quest.” I also spent the other part of the week-end having a whole lot of fun putting the creative juices to work in a different way.

Gerri and I, she’s my roommate I’ve spoken of previously, was asked to help a friend in need. My friend is having her Sunday school class Christmas party at her house and of course she wants her home decorated.

Due to upcoming surgery she needed help in decorating and creating a beautiful Christmas atmosphere for her thirty plus guests when they arrive, so Gerri and I volunteered.

Isn’t it interesting that when two or more are gathered great things can be accomplished, and that doesn’t just apply to prayer.

Gerri and I put our creative talents together and the wreath in the picture is the result along with an eight foot, now decorated, Christmas tree.

There are times when we can reach out to others, even though we may have a busy schedule, and help them to accomplish something they are unable to do.

So whether it is helping someone with editing, adding chapters to your book, or keeping up with your blog, set some time aside to help others. Those creative juices can flow in many different areas.

Have a great week and thanks for coming by.

Been There-Done That

It’s fun to be able to incorporate a location that we’ve been to in person when writing a novel. I’ve done that in other books I have published. It brings back fun, and maybe not so fun, memories and there isn’t as much research that needs to be done.

But since it’s been quite a few years since I’ve been here I did have to do some research and the memories began flowing.

When I was in Paris I didn’t climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower but stood gazing at it in awe. Playing the tourist I did get to the Notre-Dame and the usual tourist spots.

The chapter I am about to write two of my characters are headed to Paris after harrowing months of being shot at, threatened, and living in terror for months.

It will be fun to see how the Lord pulls all this together with hopefully a happy ending. I don’t like books that are referred to as “cliff hangers.”

I read one of those one time and ended up writing a note to the author begging for him/her to write a sequel so I would know what happened. I never got a reply sadly.

So far things are moving along smoothly and that’s important. So when you’re writing if you can incorporate some places you have been, do. It’s fun to remember those good times and be able to share them with others.

Enjoy the remainder of your week and I’ll see you next time.

God Bless Our Veterans

The day is sunny but on the chilly side. Driving home from the doctor’s office to try to get this sinus infection that has now turned into wanting to be bronchitis I see our beautiful flags waving in the breeze and think of the many who are serving to protect our country from all sorts of enemies, and those who sacrificed their lives for us. A mere thank you doesn’t seem enough, but thank you to our military and their families for all they have done and all that they still do. God bless and keep each and every one of you.

The last couple of days have been busy with one thing after another but thankfully I have been able to add another three or four chapters to my new book. Cold days are the best because I hibernate like an old grizzly bear and that’s conducive for writing, at least for me.

I started out with one title and figured it would eventually be changed as the story began to take form. I was right. It has changed and I think “Amy’s Quest” is going to be perfect for it but we’ll see if the Lord changes it again. For now that’s my title and like I said, I think it fits the story perfectly, plus I really like it and that does make a difference.

If we come up with a title and it just doesn’t resonate with out spirit then we need to wait, pray, and wait for the Lord to drop that perfect title like a bomb. He’ll do it you know, if you’ll just allow Him to.

“Amy’s Quest” is really turning into a real suspense novel. I love it! I still have no idea where the Lord is taking this story but He’s being faithful every time I sit down to start typing.

I got tickled at my doctor this morning. He absolutely loves my books and grabs it out of my hand as soon as a new one is released and buys it. Of course I always take one for him knowing he’ll buy it.

I told him this morning I was writing a new one but he might not want to read it. Of course that really puzzled him and I said, “because I have some medical stuff in it and you might see too many mistakes and throw it away.” He burst out laughing. He asked what its about and I said “a real suspense one.” His eyes got big and he said, “Ohhh, keep writing!”

So I’m keeping on writing in between blowing my nose, coughing, and and trying to keep up with medication schedule.

Pray for our vets and I’ll see you next time.

Our Day Trip

The drive going up to Helen was beautiful. The news had been saying that the colors were at peak in the mountains and as I stated before we planned to go.

I was so glad I was feeling better, and off we went for a fun day in the North Georgia mountains. Yes, it was pretty chilly but with a couple of layers of clothing on we were fine. Well, make that 3 layers for me. Get above 70 and I’ll take a layer off.

The town of course is surrounded by trees and a major river (Chattahoochee) and we were able to enjoy all of it. Had the sun been shining brightly I think the colors would have stood out more but I’m sure not complaining.

Spending the day shopping and having real German food for lunch was a treat we both needed. Yes, its a tourist spot, but one I always enjoy whether I go alone and spend the night in the hotel on the river or with someone else for the day. Of course it is more fun if someone else is with me.

The whole town looks like this, even the McDonald’s. The small trees along the walkways are even brilliant which is a real treat.

So needless to say there was no trying to straighten out the partial chapter I messed up before and no writing. The day was spend admiring and thoroughly enjoying Gods beautiful creations.

How can anyone look at the beauty God has created and say, “There is no God!?” Something is definitely wrong in their head!

Enjoy the week-end. Stay warm and safe.

Playing Tourist

This picture was taken a couple of years ago when I had a friend visiting from another state. There’s a small tourist town in the North Georgia mountains called Helen, Ga. I love going there regardless of visitors or not.

As you can see in the background the stores are all built in the German, Swiss, etc. style. Many of the shops have articles from those foreign countries. Its quite the quaint little town and with the Fall leaves in full color my roommate and I are headed up there today. Me, with camera ready.

We were going to go yesterday but I woke up with my head all stopped up and a sore throat and now I’m dealing with a sinus infection. I guess its that time of year. Yuck!

Needless to say, I haven’t written much the last few days. I started a new chapter in my new book but didn’t get far. I just couldn’t seem to get my head wrapped around what the Lord wanted written and kept messing it up. I finally just said, “I’m sorry Lord” and quit.

That’s something I have learned the hard way, we can’t force the words to come. If we do there will be some sad consequences, like a lousy story!

In trying to write this last chapter, even as little as I wrote, I went back to reread it and holy cow, what a mess! Nothing made sense, there was no flow, and the entire thing was just a mess.

No, I didn’t delete it even though I was tempted, but I’ll have to go back and do quite a bit of editing and hoping that my brain isn’t clogged and I can do a decent job of it.

In the meantime I’m going to go play tourist and take as many pictures of the trees radiating God’s beauty. I hope you all are enjoying the Fall colors also.

Go play tourist, too and I’ll see ya’ next time.

Moving Forward Regardless

Wow, what a week-end! I hope you all had a great one. It’s been cold which means I hibernate and when I hibernate I need to be doing something besides hiding in my cave sleeping.

I have spent most of the week-end writing. Yaaay me, but I have also experienced a good bit of frustration in doing so. But frustration or not I must move forward regardless. We can’t just throw up our hands and yell, “I quit!”

One of my characters in my new novel is named Casey. She’s a nine year old girl and for some unknown reason I keep typing Corey.

I didn’t realize I was doing that and being quite pleased with myself after completing three more chapters it suddenly hits me like a bomb that I’ve been calling the girl Corey. Grrrrr

That means going back through the past three chapters to make all the corrections. Word for word I have to check and finally get the name typed correctly and move on to the last chapter I’ve typed to reread and make sure there is continuity, etc.

“Wait a minute! This is supposed to be — and —, not — and —.”

Another screw up! I put the wrong two people where the right two people are supposed to be. Okay, its late, I’m tired, and maybe I need to hang it up for the night, but first I have to correct this. I can’t stand leaving errors for the next day if I see them.

Needless to say, writing a novel with more than a few characters can get twisted around in our heads and we have to keep the people, the places, and the length of times straight.

I can’t have a kidnapping, for example, on Monday and she’s been gone for four days and suddenly having her discovered in three days after she disappeared kind of thing.

We have to keep these things straight or the readers will be so confused they just toss the book aside to gather dust.

I prefer my books to be read from cover to cover, not need dusting after reading twenty-five pages.

Thanks for stopping by – have a blessed week.

A Gloomy Day in Georgia

Having taken a couple of days of rest and trying to get my head screwed on right for writing a novel that I have no idea where it is going or how it will end I think today will be a good day for digging back into it. I hope so anyway.

We’ve had two days of rainy, gloomy weather and today is at least dry so far but a gloomy kind of overcast. I guess that’s good for all those who celebrate Halloween. I don’t! In my opinion it is satan’s day and in no way will I celebrate the dark side. We are to be light not depict darkness with witches costumes and little devil’s running from door to door. But that’s just my opinion.

With our temperatures dropping down to 34 degrees tonight I have a couple of plants, big plants, in big pots, that I need to bring inside and some laundry to do and then I will sit down at this contraption called a computer and get into some serious prayer and serious writing. Procrastination must end!

With the colder temperatures arriving I can light the fire in the fireplace, fix myself a hot cup of herb tea and settle back in the warmth of the room and write. This story definitely has me going because of the twists and turns. It sure would help if the Lord would quit saying, “Trust Me. You’ll see.”

The mystery is building.

Hang in there, we’ll get it done.

Thanks for your prayers and support.

Suspense Growing

After spending a quiet day of rest and relaxation I decided to begin the next chapter in the new book while it was quiet and peaceful last night with no interruptions. Reading the last chapter, so as to be sure to start where that one left off, ideas began to form in my mind.

A lot of ideas. “Okay Lord. Get me out of your way so I will write what you want written.” I sat praying and then started typing and things seemed to be going pretty smoothly but…

A new twist in the story began appearing. I’ve been told by past publishers and editors that if a story has too many twists and turns, several characters, and various events that it can become confusing to the reader. Its almost like trying to put an invisible jigsaw puzzle together and the reader will lose interest.

I finished the chapter after asking the Lord several times, “Is this coming from you or am I getting in your way?” The answer was always affirming and encouraging that no I am not getting in His way and to keep going.

This morning I was up early and began the next chapter. Half way through it I have had to stop because of my own doubts and listening to past editors about a story becoming too complicated. The new twist in last nights chapter is being played out in this chapter and even with the Lord admonishing me with, “Who’s writing this?” because I keep questioning if this is coming from me or from the Holy Spirit, so I just had to back away before I would delete the entire chapter and start over thinking I’ve messed up and got in His way.

So for today, I’m tempted to go back and continue the chapter but because of my doubts I won’t. I need a clear head and a sense that this is the way the story should be going.

And that’s what we need to do! If this arises when we’re working on a book, an article, or whatever and our thoughts are not clear, or there’s a sense of something not right, or maybe distractions from the enemy are sneaking in, then we need to back off and take a break.

So maybe tonight my head will be screwed on straight and the Lord will give me the rest of this story or at least the rest of this chapter.

Thanks for coming by. See you next time.

Back in the Groove

After writing about my woes I’m happy to say the week-end was nice! Nice, yes, but there was one little unexpected glitch. I decided I needed to see if my gas fireplace was working due to winter cold just around the corner. It’s remote controlled so I grab the remote. I press the buttons – no little clicking sound telling me that the fire is about to pop up through the logs, nothing!

The non-Christian language wanted to spill forth but I was able to contain it. Thank you Jesus. I don’t have to ask for forgiveness and repent of the foul language spilling forth from these lips.

I decided to wait and just take care of it at a later date and went off to bed. During the night and in my deep sleep, I hear a voice that says two simple words, “remote control.”

The next day I check the battery in the remote control – dead as a door nail. I change the battery and walla- all is good and no big bill to check out the fireplace. God is so good! He cares and looks after us and we need to listen to His little whispered words.

I was finally able to settle down from all the “disasters” and my roommate and I drove up to Dahlonega in the mountains of Georgia, and visit a 92 year old that I had been visiting before she was moved to another assisted living facility after an extended stay in the hospital.

We were able to spend some time with her, stop and have some lunch, and on the way home take a few pictures of the Fall leaves that have finally started to display their beautiful colors.

With my renewed sense of peace the juices began to flow again and I spent most of Saturday and part of Sunday writing. It felt great! If we can take care of business and get to the point of having a mind clear of other things we can sit down and let the words flow.

I found that having the cares and concerns for other things is definitely a big hindrance to writing. How can a story line flow when smoke alarms blare sending you glued to the ceiling in the middle of the night, broken t.v’s, and stopped up toilets are upper most on our minds? It could be a sick child, a car broken down, or anything else that invades the writing juices from flowing.

With the week-end free from those pesky need-to-do, have to take care of surprises I have been able to write, write, write, and I’ve joyfully added another three chapters to the new book.

It feels so good to be back in the groove!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.

The Plumber

The last post I was pouring out my woes to you and things were not looking up. It seemed it was one thing after another and this is the time of year when my big bills come rolling in and must be paid so I was hanging onto the Lords promise to meet all of my needs and now with a new roommate that I’m helping the checkbook might squeal a bit.

We got the smoke alarms taken care of and the T.V. fixed and my handy dandy handyman came yesterday evening and plunged and plunged and plunged and used the “snake” on the guest house toilet all to no avail. “I’ll have to come back Monday with a fifty foot snake and remove the toilet and run the snake the full length.”

Not good news and in the meantime my poor roommate is having to traipse upstairs to use the bathroom. She can still shower and use the sinks etc. downstairs so this morning she gets in the shower and while her head is filled with shampoo she glances down and the bottom of the shower is filled above her feet with soapy water.

“Ahhhh, Sue.” She doesn’t want to tell me after everything else.

But….

“The water was over my feet and I hear blurp, blurp, blurp. Then all of a sudden a whooooooosh. All the water was instantly sucked down the drain.” she tells me. The toilet flushes, no more problem and I do a happy dance and finish the chapter I was writing on my new book.

I didn’t know that God was a plumber!

See ya later…
