As I stepped into this new season, my prayer was that I become Tethered to Jesus. Tethered…… yes! That’s a choice word one way, but I’m focused on building the ark. My study recently was Genesis Ch 6 and chapter 7. The chapters focused on God speaking with Noah, guiding him through building the ark, instructing him get on it with his family and all the animals by pair. Here’s what was revealed to me.
Genesis Ch. 6 v 8-9 Amp
8 But Noah found favor and grace in the eyes of the Lord.
9 These are the records of the generations (family history) of Noah. Noah was a righteous man [one who was just and had right standing with God], blameless in his [evil] generation; Noah walked (lived) [in habitual fellowship] with God. 10 Now Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Genesis Ch. 7 v. 1 Amp
Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you with all your household, for you [alone] I have seen as righteous (doing what is right) before Me in this generation.
The text doesn’t say Noah was perfect. It says among everyone in his generation he was found blameless because he lived in “Habitual fellowship” with God. I used my good friend google for this today.
Habitual Fellowship
Habitual – something done consistently, as a pattern or practice
Fellowship -close relationship and shared life
Habitual fellowship -continually connecting, and sharing life with someone as a regular practice, not just occasionally
As we know, God told Noah to build the ark, and because he walked closely with God, he was able to save his family. While we’re not building a physical ark today, our focus is on building our relationship with Him. Experiencing the heart and love of God through fellowship is one of life’s greatest blessings. Making it a consistent habit isn’t always easy. Those hurdles are what I call distractions!
Everywhere we turn there is a distraction. I’m sure there was a distraction around every corner in Noah’s time. If we’re not already in the “days of Noah” phase, then I wouldn’t be surprised if it was right at the doorstep. Ask yourself this: Can I resist the distractions of our time and work to build the ark spiritually?
Some people shy away from the word “work,” but as Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, our struggle isn’t against flesh and blood, but against principalities. This is spiritual opposition. Forces that try to keep believers from staying in habitual fellowship with God and with his people.
Take myself as an example. I have been fighting to stay focused lately during meditation time. Sometimes when I go into my time of stillness random thoughts attack my mind. some are good, some are bad, but they are still appearing in a time where I am desiring to seek God and tune out the noise and just hear him. That’s when prayer comes in for me, even if I’m constantly casting down just to focus.
Be persistent in this season to focus and keep your eyes fixed on the things above. It is a work to get up out of bed early or staying up a little later just to get some quite alone time with God. It will pay off. Like any work we do here on earth, we look to earn a wage. Our wage for seeking God is an abundant amount of his love and the by product is always his provision. Just as he provided safety for Noah and his family.
