The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
If I ever needed a reminder to trust the Lord, this chapter would be it. Join me as I explore, line by line, what this Psalm means to me.
V1. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Easy, this is what I can say: The Lord is my shepherd. I remember when I first came into the faith, I would hear God’s voice audibly. Now, He has graduated me to hearing His whisper, and I must admit, I miss those audible moments. Repeating this verse helps calm my spirit, reminding me that the Lord is with me. He is shepherding me, and I shall not lack anything. In Strong’s Concordance, the word “want” means to not lack, to not fail, or to have no deficiency. Every worry or need can be cast upon the Good Shepherd, for because of Him, I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
The Good Sheperd causes me to Rest. I rest in Him. I rest with Him in my heart. I rest with Him. Sitting next to a calm stream of water is peaceful in itself. When the Shepherd leads you there know that comfort and peace will be there.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
This verse is an assurance that God will restore me to His original plan for my life. I can believe this will happen because I call on the name of Jesus, my Lord and savior, He will do it for His name sake!
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me
The Lord God is always with Us!!
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
He is our avenger and The Lord God is our protector and elevator.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Must I say more? Don’t you just love the Good Shepherd?
