As I opened my Bible for a midday study, I found myself meditating on 1 Corinthians chapter 9, specifically verses 19–23. In these passages, Paul speaks about the freedom he has as a believer and how he wisely adapts in order to reach different people. His goal was never compromise, but to connect. He planted seeds of faith in the hearts of unbelievers and strengthened those who were weak. Even today through his writings.
Meditating on these verses, the message became clear to me: sympathize without compromising and be amongst without becoming. Paul showed that you can be “all things to all people” while remaining rooted and grounded in Christ. It requires wisdom, discernment, and sensitivity to the atmosphere around you. Knowing who you labor among matters.
I’m sure in Paul’s time the culture was just as loud and distracting as it is now. After all, there is truly nothing new under the sun. As a creative, I’ve been praying for innovative ways to spark a conversation about Jesus. One of the simplest ways I’m able to do so is by wearing faith-based shirts with catchy phrases. More often than not, those shirts spark curiosity, opening the door for me to share the Gospel or a personal testimony that points someone back to Jesus.
Another creative addition I believe God has sent into my life is my son. Even at just four years old, there is something uniquely put about him. He naturally engages with almost anyone yet somehow discerns when it’s best to stay quiet. After a simple “Hey, what’s your name?” he might say, ” Jesus?” This often prompts the other person to ask, “What about Jesus?” leading to a meaningful conversation. It’s truly amazing to watch how he reads and responds to his surroundings.
God can use a conversation, a T-shirt, a testimony, or even the boldness of a child to plant seeds that may one day lead someone closer to Him. And maybe that’s the beauty of it all. Being in the world without becoming consumed by it, while allowing God to creatively shine through every part of who we are.
Let’s read this together:
1st Cor. 9 v 19-23 AMP Version
19) For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to everyone, so that I may win more [for Christ]. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews [for Christ]; to men under the Law, [I became] as one [e]under the Law, though not being under the Law myself, so that I might win those who are under the Law. 21 To those who are without (outside) the Law, [I became] as one without the Law, though [I am] not without the law of God, but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the [f]weak I became [as the] weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means [in any and every way] save some [by leading them to faith in Jesus Christ]. 23 And I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings along with you.
Take a moment today to pray for those who have not yet accepted their free gift of salvation, Ask the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ for creative ways to reach the harvest! For it is Plentiful!
