Happy Mid-Day Beloveds,
I’m going to make this short and sweet. A quick read.
I mentioned that I was journeying through the Bible from start to finish this year, but on Saturday night, I made a quick detour into the book of Matthew….chapter six, to be exact.
Matthew chapter six opens up about how to give to the poor, how to pray and how God views public prayer, Then Jesus addresses the love for mammon. Right before he addresses mammon he talks about the eyes. Read it with me:
Matthew 6: 22-24
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body; so if your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive], your whole body will be full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts]. 23 But if your eye is bad [spiritually blind], your whole body will be full of darkness [devoid of God’s precepts]. So if the [very] light inside you [your inner self, your heart, your conscience] is darkness, how great and terrible is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord].
In parentheses are the words money, possessions, fame, status, or anything valued more than the Lord. The first thought that comes to mind is when Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom, and everything will be added to you,” found a few verses later in Matthew 6:33. If we seek His kingdom first, then only His desires for our life will fill our hearts. A holy desire and the will God have for our lives.
Let’s quickly talk about why the eye is the lamp of the body.
Biblically the eye represents, focus, perception, desire and intentions. Jesus goes on to say in verse 22, if your eye is clear, some versions say if your eye is single, meaning undivided, whole, sincere and focused on God then your body will be illuminated (full of light).
A single eye is loyal to God, clear in spiritual vision and a heart that desires him. The evil eye, on the other hand, represents greed, envy, corruption, distorted perception, and self-centered desires. Hmm? This points directly to the spirit of lust. Many, when they hear about the spirit of lust they focus on sex, while uncovenanted sex may be an entry point, Lust is also moving in your own desires. It seeks to draw God out of you by distracting with things of the world, thought patterns, and Knowledge not given by Holy Spirit. And That was the revelation I received from this study, about overcoming Lust by focusing and seeking God with intention.
Here’s a cliffhanger: in culture, many wear the evil eye symbol as fashion for protection. If it’s on your clothes, jewelry, or purse, toss it away or burn it. Yes, I’m sounding extra while typing this sentence ……that’s the sister in Christ in me speaking. We as believers know our protection comes from God Almighty. (Psalms 91)
The most dangerous darkness to be in, is the darkness we believe to be light. I may need to copyright that cause that was a bar! Hello!
I will leave you with this. In prayer, I often ask God to search my heart, and sanctify my mind, will and emotions so that I may know what it is I’m dealing with and that I am not walking in darkness believing I’m operating in light. Try it. Your issue may not be loud and visible but it’s better to ask now than to find out later.
Sunday my Pastor spoke about King David and how he pursued his own desires. As I was taking notes I was like! Wow, same message different section of the Bible! Aint God good? He will verify a thing for you more than once! That you understand what he is communicating to you. I will attach the Sunday service feel free to watch it if you have time! Thanks for tuning in!
